About the tour

 

1. This bus tour takes participants to Eastern Hokkaido’s three biggest winter festivals. Take a ride on the drift ice sightseeing & icebreaker cruise ship Aurora and cruise about the mystical Sea of Okhotsk. Get ready to enjoy winter in Eastern Hokkaido to the fullest!
*Participants must shoulder the JPY 300 admission fee to the Sounkyo Ice Waterfall Festival.

2. On Day 2, ride the icebreaker cruise ship Aurora and see Hokkaido’s famous drift ice up close. Also, feel free to experience walking on drift ice on the morning of Day 3.

3. An English-speaking tour conductor accompanies the tour. This tour is guaranteed to operate with a minimum of 2 participants on all departure dates.

Itinerary

08:40 –

Meet at Century Royal Hotel in front of Sapporo Station

Please be at the 1st floor hotel entrance lobby by 8:40.
Departure time is 9:00.

11:20 – 14:40

Asahiyama Zoo (Lunch at own expense)
(200 min)
Located in Asahiyama City, this is the northernmost zoo in Japan. Asahiyama Zoo rapidly became famous for its unique and interactive enclosures which allow visitors to see animals up close in their natural state. Recently the zoo has become known as one of Hokkaido’s best sightseeing spots, and receives flocks of visitors from not only Japan but overseas as well. Enjoy lunch on your own (please pay for your own lunch).

Stay at Sounkyo Choyotei

Arrive at the hotel. A buffet will be served for dinner. Enjoy a relaxing time at the hot spring bath.
Accommodation will be in a Japanese/Western combination room.
After checking in, feel free to head to the Sounkyo Ice Waterfall Festival (held until 22:00) and have a great time. In the evening, the festival grounds and ice sculptures are illuminated in an array of beautiful colors and the town is transformed into a mystical wonderland. *An admission fee of JPY 300 is required to enter the Sounkyo Ice Waterfall Festival. Please make any payments to festival staff in cash on the day.

Ryusei and Ginga Waterfalls
(15 min)
Enjoy both of these waterfalls in the same spectacular view at Sounkyo. This pair of waterfalls is collectively referred to as Meotodaki, or “husband and wife waterfalls”, and can be viewed simultaneously. Ryusei Waterfall features a powerful stream of water which drops about 90 meters, also known as Otokodaki or the male waterfall. Ginga Waterfall begins at a height of 121 meters and is flayed into many fine threads partway down, giving it a womanly appearance.

Board the Aurora Icebreaker Cruise No. 3
(60 min)
Take a ride on the Aurora icebreaker cruise ship and witness Abashiri’s most popular winter sightseeing attraction, the mysterious drift ice of the Sea of Okhotsk. The Aurora is a large icebreaker ship equipped with a range of onboard facilities, and offers a safe and steady ride.

In case the drift ice sightseeing cruise aboard the icebreaker Aurora is cancelled due to inclement weather, a refund of JPY 3,200 per adult and JPY 1,600 will be issued. If there are no drift ice along the route, the cruise will be for sightseeing only, and a refund of JPY 720 per adult and JPY 360 per child will be issued.

Okhotsk Seafood Wholesale Market
(60 min)
Here you can enjoy shopping, and have bowl of rice topped with fresh seafood for lunch.

Please understand that there is no vegetarian option available.

Oshinkoshin Waterfall
(20 min)
These falls have been selected as one of Japan’s top 100 waterfalls.

Stay at Shiretoko Daiichi Hotel

Dinner consists of a delicious buffet featuring over 80 various dishes including a selection of fresh seafood from the Shiretoko region, as well as desserts such as chocolate fondue.
Accommodation will be in a Japanese-style or Japanese-style twin room (modern Japanese).
After dinner, feel free to enjoy the Shiretoko Drift Ice Festival, a new annual event starting this year, held from 18:30 to 22:00.

DAY 3

08:30 –

Depart from Shiretoko Daiichi Hotel

A buffet will be served for breakfast.

Drift Ice Walk Experience
(90 min)
Experience walking on drift ice together with a nature guide.

If the drift ice walk is cancelled due to inclement weather, a refund of JPY 4,800 per adult and JPY 2,400 per child will be issued.
There will be no alternative itinerary, so departure from hotel will be at a later time.

Kawayu Onsen Ikedaya (Lunch)
(60 min)
Savor delicious charcoal-grilled seafood for lunch.

15:15 – 15:55

Lake Mashu
(40 min)
Lake Mashu is the second clearest lake in the world next to Lake Baikal, and was designated as a Hokkaido Heritage site in 2001. In winter, Lake Mashu is covered in a veil of white and offers spectacular views.

Stay at Lake Akan Tsuruga Wings

Accommodation will be in a Japanese-style or Japanese-style twin room (modern Japanese). Some rooms provided may only have showers (no bath tubs).
A buffet will be served for dinner.
After dinner, feel free to enjoy the Lake Akan Ice Festival fireworks (held from 19:30 to 20:30)

DAY 4

08:30 –

Depart from Lake Akan Tsuruga Wings

After breakfast, the tour will depart by bus at 8:30.
A buffet will be served for breakfast.

11:00 – 11:40

Ikeda Wine Castle
(40 min)
Here, old vintage wine are aged in French oak barrels at the basement. A shopping area on the 1st floor offers Tokachi wine and other special products of Ikeda.

12:10 – 12:40

Ryugetsu Sweetpia Garden
(30 min)
Sanporoku is a highly acclaimed baumkuchen, a type of dessert made to resemble Japanese birch wood. It is said to be the pioneer in soft, moist baumkuchen, and was awarded a Monde Selection prize, earning fame across the globe.

13:00 – 14:00

Lunch at Hokkaido Hotel
(60 min)
Look forward to a delicious lunch at the Bird Watch Cafe, where you can enjoy a sweeping view of the Hokkaido Hotel garden from the terrace. A Western-style set menu meal prepared with ingredients from Tokachi will be served.

Please understand that there is no vegetarian option available.

Rokkatei Main Store

This Obihiro sweets manufacturer is famous for its Marusei butter cookies and white chocolate.

7. Participants under 6 years of age or 130 cm or shorter may not join this tour (due to the drift ice walk itinerary).

8. If the drift ice walk is cancelled due to inclement weather, a refund of JPY 4,800 per adult and JPY 2,400 per child will be issued.
There will be no alternative itinerary, so departure from hotel will be at a later time.

9. An English-speaking tour conductor accompanies this tour.
Please be advised that a Japanese-speaking bus guide offering information on sightseeing locations will not be accompanying this tour.

10. The itinerary may need to be changed due to weather conditions.
11. Smoking is not permitted on the bus. Please use the smoking areas after disembarking the bus at sightseeing spots and rest areas.

12. Admission fees, bus fare, and the cruise fare are all included in the tour booking price. Admission fee to the Sounkyo Ice Waterfall Festival is not included.

14. A different vehicle may be used instead of a bus depending on the number of participants. There will be no accompanying bus guide in this case.
