About the tour

2. This is a 1-day tour visiting Lake Shikotsu, Japan’s northernmost non-freezing lake, and the Toya Caldera and Usu Volcano Global Geopark.

Meet at Sapporo Station Bus Terminal & Depart
The bus will depart at 8:35.

Please check in at the regular sightseeing bus window on the 2nd floor of JR Sapporo Station Bus Terminal at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Participants will be given a regular sightseeing bus ticket. At reception, please show a printed copy of the reservation confirmation sheet or a printout of the reservation confirmation e-mail. Simply showing the confirmation on a mobile device screen will not be accepted. The bus will depart at the scheduled time regardless of latecomers, so make sure to be on time.
A Japanese-speaking guide will accompany the tour, but will not provide verbal sightseeing guidance. Information on sights seen out the window will be provided by a Multilingual Audio Guide in English, Chinese and Korean. The multilingual audio guide system provides audio information in the selected language as the bus passes predetermined points.
All seats will be assigned. Seat requests are not accepted at reservation.

Lake Shikotsu (60 min)
Lake Shikotsu is a caldera lake formed approximately 40,000 years ago when water collected in Shikotsu caldera. The surface area is only a 9th of Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake, but the water volume is the 2nd largest in Japan due to its depth. It is also famous for its high level of clarity. Participants may board a Lake Shikotsu sightseeing boat (glass-bottom boat) as an optional activity to see the lake’s clear water up close.

*Free time is scheduled at Lake Shikotsu.
*An additional charge is required if boarding the Lake Shikotsu sightseeing boat (glass-bottom boat). If boarding, participants may board the 10:10 departure (cruise time of 30 min). (Additional charges apply)

The Lake Shikotsu sightseeing boat (glass-bottom boat scheduled for Apr. 15 to Nov. 4) may be boarded as an optional activity. This can be used for the following price by showing the sightseeing bus ticket stub.

Lunch at Toyako Manseikaku (85 min)
Enjoy lunch at Toyako Manseikaku. Participants can also bathe in the hot springs at the hotel for a discounted price (separate charge applies). There is a guest-only relaxation room where participants can take an unhurried rest. A walk along the shore of Lake Toya is nice as well.

Optional hot spring bathing is available at Toyako Manseikaku.

Board Usuzan Ropeway / Showa Shinzan Bear Park (customers are free to explore on their own) (90 min)
Mount Usu was formed from a series of eruptions occurring 10,000 to 20,000 years ago. It remains an active volcano to this day. Showa Shinzan and Lake Toya can be seen from the area near the mountaintop ropeway station. Take a walk on the Outer Rim Boardwalk to the Crater Basin Observation Deck and learn how a volcano works while enjoying the gorgeous views below.

At the Showa Shinzan Bear Park, enjoy seeing many brown bears up close! Feel free to buy cookies and feed them to the bears (additional charges apply). See the charming bears as they come close, eager for their treat! (Additional charges apply)

The boardwalk at the peak of Mount Usu is well maintained, but please wear shoes and clothes which are easy to walk in.
If ropeway service is suspended due to strong winds or other reason, participants will receive a souvenir present instead.

From here, admire the superb view overlooking Lake Toya. This is a picturesque spot popular for photos. Enjoy shopping at the store here, which is stocked with specialty goods of Hokkaido.

If 1 adult (12 or older) will be accompanied by 2 infants (0-5 years old), please make a booking for 1 of the infants at the child rate (6-11 years old). A bus seat, lunch, and Mount Usu Ropeway fare are included for those booked at the child rate (6-11 years old).
